Welcome to C-Pro Direct
C-Pro Direct became the European agents for Mitchell Designs as a result
of the experiences we had following the birth of our son, Anthony, in
July 2004. Anthony has bilateral clubfeet.
After doing a huge amount of research, we decided that we wanted Anthony
to be treated using the Ponseti method. This method involves manipulation
of the feet over a number of weeks into the correct position. Each manipulation
is held in place by plaster casts. Following the casting, the child has
to wear a brace (consisting of a pair of sandals joined by a bar, which
hold the feet at a particular angle) initially for 23 hours a day for
3 months, followed by a gradual lessening of the hours to 12-14 hours
until the child is approx 4 years old. We were advised by Dr.Ponseti that
the usual type of brace would not work for Anthony as his feet were atypical,
so he advised us to try and get hold of the Ponseti brace, designed by
a brilliant craftsman, John Mitchell, in Iowa.
John Mitchell kindly made a brace for Anthony. We were so delighted
with the results – Anthony’s feet continued to correct whilst
in the Ponseti brace - that we felt it was important for all children
who needed the Ponseti brace to have access to it.
So we contacted John Mitchell, with a view to becoming his European
agents, and he kindly agreed. We now sell the Ponseti brace (which has
been designed in conjunction with Dr. Ponseti himself), as well as a clubfoot
model, rubber legs for plaster cast practice, and a set of wall mounted
plaster casts which show the difference in cast shapes throughout the
treatment.

"Parents of infants born with clubfeet may be reassured
that their baby, if otherwise normal, when treated by expert hands
will have normal looking feet with normal function for all practical
purposes. The well-treated clubfoot is no handicap and is fully compatible
with a normal, active life."
