Ponseti AFO - Standard Sandals
The Ponseti AFO brace was developed by MD Orthopaedics in consultation with Dr Ponseti as a result of problems occurring with other types of brace. Download a copy of Dr. Ponseti's supporting letter.
The Ponseti AFO Abduction Brace is to be used after the clubfoot has been corrected by manipulation followed by serial casting and possibly a heel cord tenotomy, in accordance with the Ponseti method of treatment. When used on atypical/complex clubfoot, the brace aids further correction by gradually increasing flexibilty and dorsiflexion.
Parents of infants born with clubfeet may be reassured that their baby, if otherwise normal, when treated by expert hands will have normal looking feet with normal function for all practical purposes. The well-treated clubfoot is no handicap and is fully compatible with a normal, active life.
